Flip flop floor, 2003

Installation - Dimensions variable

Inspired from walking around the city of San Francisco, I noticed that I would often come across more editing things when taking a walk, than when I would go to see exhibitions in galleries or museums. This made me install a floor made out of one-inch (2.54 cm) thick cardboard, in which I cut out up to 150 pairs of "flip flops" in Afferent sizes with nylon straps inserted.

For the two months that the exhibition was open, the visitors to the gallery were invited to pick out a pair of flip-flops from the floor and go for a walk, while still wearing the "gallery floor."

This image shows the entire installation as well as detail photographs of people choosing their flip-flops.
